Kena Highlanders Pipes & Drums
The Kena Highlanders Pipes and Drums is a marching unit of Kena Shriners and has been an active unit since the 1980s. Our purpose is to support and promote the interests of Kena Shriners and Shriners International through music, specifically the Scottish “Great Highland Bagpipe” and Scottish drums.
The Kena Highlanders perform in many community parades and at other special occasions such as the “piping in” of dignitaries, Masonic officer installations, weddings, funerals, and area community events. We also perform occasionally at social events for nobles.
The band features authentic Scottish and Irish bagpipe music, Scottish uniforms and accessories, and has adopted the “American Bicentennial” red-white-and-blue tartan as the official band kilt.
The band meets each Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. for practice and our monthly business meeting is held the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in our unit room.
The Kena Highlanders are actively seeking new members. You do not need to know how to play. We have a pipe instructor who holds beginner bagpipe lessons at 6:00 p.m. each Wednesday before band practice. We also have positions for those who would like to participate but do not wish to play an instrument.
