Shriners provide expert, no-cost medical care to children under the age of 18. As long as there are children, there will be a need for Shriners Hospitals for Children. Certainly, that need is still evident today as the 22 pediatric specialty hospitals in the United States, Canada and Mexico continue -- as they have for 75 years -- to provide free, quality medical care to youngsters with orthopedic problems and severe burn injuries.

According to information from our Shriners Burns Institutes, in the past 15 years (from 2006) dramatic measures have been put in place to reduce burns injuries: burn prevention programs in schools, increased use of smoke detectors, flame resistant sleepwear and safe lighters. But in fact, did you know that every year........
250,000 children are burned
1,100 children die from burns injuries
15,000 children are hospitalized with burn injuries
5,000 children are injured by scalds from tap water
200,000 children are burned from contact with hot objects
100,000 children sustain scald injuries from spilled food and beverages.
The next time you learn of a child who has any type of burns injury, give the family our Imperial 1-800-237-5055 number or if they live in our local area, give them the Boston Burns Hospital, 617-722-3000 (Boston is the hospital where we send local patients). If the child lives in another area, the Imperial staff will know the proper hospital for referral.
In 2010 the name changed to Shriners International from Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles Mystic Shrine (A.A.O.N.M.S) of North America. It is probably more than coincidence that its initials, rearranged, spell out the word "A MASON."
